Help with cuttlass bearing/prop shaft adjusment

ok my cutlass bearing itself is fine but the joint where it meets the hull has issuess the whatever was is there has peeled away umm i have some pics also the shaft needs to be raised just to center it in the stuffing box

geez what a pain to get a pic in here umm how can i get some pics here :confused

I'm having a hard time understanding your email and thus your issue. You did mention that your prop shaft needs to be raised. I had this problem myself when we were on the hard and trying to repack the stuffing box. In between when I took the stuffing box nut off, and tried to put it back on, the travelift lifted us, and guess what, it wouldn't fit back on.

Judicious use of a very small amount of force from a car bottle jack placed under the shaft moved it the 1/8" it needed to make everything fit. Now I sail with a car bottle jack in my every expanding locker of tools.

the rear of strut needs to be raised shaft also but allready got a good idea how to fix thanks for your reply tho

Although your photo is far too small to see much. It appears that the bedding and perhaps the shims have come out from between the strut and the hull. Did you remove the strut bolts for some reason perhaps.

I think the confusion is that you asked about the cutless bearing (inside the barrel of the strut) and your issue is with the strut.

yes being an outboard guy this has been a learning process the strut needs to be redone than shaft realigned but all seems easy enough just somthing new to me

1.remove shaft
2.re adjust strut
3. put shaft back in re adjust motor mounts for it
sound right?

That may be a bit of an over simplification but in a nut shell, yup.

Re-bed and align strut. A lazer indicator in the cutless bearing directed toward the engine coupling or piano wire stretched from the center of the bearing aperture to the center of the engine coupling. Adjust shims for best alignment. Tighten strut bolts. check alignment again. Put everything back together. Final motor mount adjustment when the vessel is back in the water.

This may be a process wherein you may want some "adult supervision".

well one thing about outboards 4 bolts and everything is new lol looks like i will have to remove fuel tank to make this easyier not fun by any means
