what was that noise?
Last time we motored the boat a couple of hours, I kept hearing this metalic rattle. Then after much discussion and listening we determined the noise was inside the steering pedestal. The other day, took the compass out and looked. the compass light wires had dropped down across the chain sprocket. The vertical slack of the wires would starting swinging in sync with the engine at certain speeds and slap the inside of the pedestal so loud you would think it was the engine! I was able to pull them back up and tie them snug but I'm sure the wires eventually would have jammed the steering too. If only all fixes were so easy!
