Steering Quadrant or Yoke connect a Whipstaff?

Has anyone had any experience with a Steering system using a quadrant connected by Cables to a Whipstaff.
I much prefer tiller steering to a wheel because I can "Feel the Boat", but I am designing a Center Cockpit CB Staysail Schooner where a Tiller would be impossible.
So, I wonder how much I could "Feel the Boat" , if I connect a Whip staff to a rudder quadrant or yoke . ( Leverage would be a mater of radius of the quadrant , and depth of lever arm thru the sole. )
I have had experience with steering lines connected to a yoke on Sprits'l Skiffs and you get relatively good feel in the lines although not as good as with a tight Tiller.
( I believe steering lines were used primarily because they laid-down nets in the stern-quarters , and a tiller would always be in the way.)
So, will "feel" transmit thru steering lines to a Whipstaff to a reasonable extent?
Any experience ?
