remove nailed teak boards

Hello sailors. I'm in the process of stripping all the exterior teak on my boat. I had to remove a split plank from the bridge deck and in doing so found that the deck was made up of ~1/4" teak planks fastened with (brass?) annular nails and a very tough, black, rubbery compound to plywood covered with a thin layer of fibreglass mat. The glassed plywood underneath was damp. Is this normal? If not, how do i fix? Also, any suggestions on how to remove further planks. I basically cut through the black compound with a paint scraper and then pried the board up. Some of the nails came up while others tore through the wood leaving biggish holes behind. Can these boards somehow be reused?

Post a photo? You may be able to drill the heads off the top of your nails first. That would make getting the planks off less destructive.
