any suggestions on the best adhesive to glue some wood trim to gelcoat on the deck of the boat?

It would be nice to know what kind of wood (oil content, etc.), how large the pieces, permanent or removable, etc. How about some more detail?

its a strip of teak trip that appear to have been both glued and shallowly(a word?) screwed into the side of the cabin on the outside. I suppose a marine epoxy will work.

I wouldn't use epoxy on trim; it will be nearly impossible to remove if the need ever arises. Use 3M 4200 sparingly; a dab every 6 inches or so. It's only trim and not under load; epoxy is overkill, IMHO.

If your 'trim' is subject to being worked over, IE stomped on or kicked, I'd replace the screws what orignally helped secure the trim. If the area is still dry where the old screws came loose, you might want to seal the old holes so there's no future water intrusion.

You will probably need to use screws to get a good bond from whatever adhesive you use. I'm guessing that it will be diffficult to clamp or wedge the trim in place while the adhesive cures.
