What do you have for cockpit lights?

We want to add cockpit lights to Pelican. We'd like a decent brightness, primarily for when we entertain or eat meals in the cockpit. It would be great if they were dual-bulb and we could turn them to red, but it's not required. LED is not mandatory - we are interested in a nice, soft light that bathes as much of the cockpit as possible. Mounting is where it gets interesting - we would like to mount them to our bimini frame, so rectangular lights would fit better. Our plan is to run the wires up through the frame and then drill holes to feed them in and get them out. I've spent about an hour looking around but can't seem to find any lights that really fit what I'm looking for. I'm not overly interested in LED strip lighting, and I want to make sure that they don't look like they've been done on the cheap. Thoughts and/or pics/examples?

if you look up courtesy lights they are smaller lights. they only have a 1 watt bulb in them but you might be able to put a slightly bigger bulb in them. they are also pretty small so a few might work


edit i use a kero lamp, which doubles for cool weather heat in the saloon

I've used a solar powered lawn accent light in the past. works great and already built for outdoors. put it in the sun during the day while sailing and use it at night as a cockpit light or anchor light.

I use one of these. I clamp it on the binnacle guard and it lights up our cockpit table. When we are done, I move over to the stern rail where it charges up of the next use. Works for us!

Thanks guys... I'm looking for something a bit more permanent and bright... we had one of those solar lights and it didn't really put much light out - at least not enough to truly see people and stuff in the cockpit.

While it might not be as permanant as you are looking for, we use a Davis Mega light for the cockpit. Its bright, low amp draw and has a photo cell switch so you can set it up to come on when it gets dark which can be handy if you're returning by dingy after dark.
