Jib Sheet Routing
Apologies if this is a stupid question but I couldn't find much info through a quick search. If it is dumb, let me have it, I'm a big boy. 
How are the jib sheets routed to the cockpit in relation to the shrouds? I believe we tried every configuration over this past weekend (outside, inside, in between) but neither struck me as the obvious location. Boat type below.

The jibsheet should always be routed so when fully unfurled, the sail will be outside the shrouds. At least, that's the setup on every boat I have ever sailed.

It depends on the size of the jib. Some boats with small working jibs and shrouds that are set quite wide sheet on the inside. Most sheet outside the shrouds. All genoas sheet outside the shrouds.

Unless it is a really small jib, with some weird setup or a self-tacking design, the sheets are generally routed outside of the shrouds.

On a friends Venture 24, the small sail 90-100% was routed inside the shrouds. The larger sails went outside. The object is to not have the sheet pressing or rubbing on the shrouds.

Sorry, I guess I left out that the size is 120%.
So, if I'm understanding correctly, if the jib extends beyond the shrouds, then I should route the sheets on the outside of the shrouds also?

I suppose once you experience using a whisker pole on your jib, you will understand the reason why.

If you route the sheets inside the shrouds, I bet you can get the clew farther inboard and then you will be able to sail closer to the wind. Right guys?
