Rope Selection

I am an absolute rookie. I have just finished lessons but don''t have my own boat in the water yet. Does anyone have a good source for rope knowledge? I''m looking to replace the jib sheets, anchor line, and docking lines and don''t know the appropriate composition of rope. I only know a couple of types of composition, but curious of other opinions.

Thanks

I would suggest that you get a copy of the West Marine catalogue. It contains a very concise and useful set of recomemndations on line choices for different applications as well as a sizing chart for the line that they carry. You might find this online as well.

Check out www.neropes.com. It''s the site for New England Ropes and will tell you more than you want to know about rope, types, uses, etc. It actually is a very useful site.
