Not sure I would want a kayak hanging overboard. If you have a rail underwater or a line securing breaks seams to be too easy for the kayak and boat to part ways.
Since my sea kayak is longer than my new sailboat lashing the two together is not a concern for me. My white water kayaks have tow loops in the decks, designed to actually tow the boat out of en entrapment situation in white water. Have not looked at new sea kayaks recently but if they have something similar I would use it to lash the kayak to stanchions inside the lifelines. Can't imagine a hobie (except H33) anything carrying a kayak. Ever thought of inflatable or packable kayaks?
