Jabsco Macerator Pump

We had to replace the macerator pump on our Jabsco electric head. The old macerator had started leaking. It worked fine with the old pump but since we put the new one on it is either drawing in too much water or not pumping enough out. In either case there is WAY too much water left in the bowl after flushing. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or is it a defective pump?

Thanks!
