I used to buy the cheapies - they're more expensive in the long run. I now have digitally stabilised Canon binocs 15x50 (because you can!!) and they're worth the "excessive" money you pay for them. Problem is they don't drop any better than others so they're treated with a great deal of respect.
FWIW, we keep an old pair of cheapies in plain view down below for the casual thief rather than have him go looking for the Canons.
Off subject, we do that with credit cards too.

Thoroughly agree, these are just for home not the boat. I've never used a pair of 15 x 50. How do you like them ? I worry that they might be too sensitive but I guess the DS sorts that out. Need a new pair for the boat.
Still,
If I did that I wouldn't have any left to keep in my wallet......
