Drake76 is on a distinguished road
1981 4.5hp Mercury

Not being a motorhead, and knowing no history on this engine, any advice? Should I trade it in and get a new one? It runs. That is about all I can say.

What is the life expectancy of an old unit like this?

Does it run well? If not...get a new one... if so, why bother. Assuming it is a two-stroke, due to the age of the engine. Two strokes are generally lighter and simpler than their four-stroke counterparts.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
