3m barriercoat failure/blisters

failure of 3M vinyl ester barrier coating.
3 years ago i sanded off all the gel coat and found a great looking bottom, with no blisters or voids in the laminate, i applied many coats of the 3M vinyl ester barrier coat. With help from Bob Boyd he is the 3m rep at least here in annapolis. now 3 years later i just took my boat out of the water and have about 1000 small blisters- they dont appear to be into the laminate. Funny thing about 2 years ago 3m actually came into west marine and reoved the barrier coat-to the dumpsters. what do I do- Bob Boyd wont return my calls- the guys at west marine have heard several stories like this thanks Frank

Frank, sorry about your boat. I''ve more than 30 years experience with resins and boats. Been studying and repairing blisters for 25 years. The best I''ve seen, or heard of for that matter, is the Lenox Company out of Sudlersville, MD. Mark Lenox has done blister repair for nearly 20 years using vinylester resins. His repairs are guaranteed for ten years. He''s honest and won''t jerk you around. I''ve known him for 11 years. The best testament to the quality of his work is the fact that boats built with fire-retardant resin are brought to him from as far away as the west coast. He''s done about a dozen of them, mostly Valiant 40s, without any problems. These boats are the worst case of blistering on record. If Mark can fix them he can fix any blister problem. It''s as simple as that. Good luck. Duke
