Autopilot recommendation

My Navico 8000 bit the dust and I am looking to replace it.
I would like to hear what you would recommend as a replacement.
40 ft boat 22 000 lbs displacement, hydraulic steering.
I want a basic unit only, available in B.C., Canada.

Read the fine print on the Navico warranty carefully. I replaced my Navico with Raymarine.

I love my Raymarine X10/ST70 combo... been through 45kt winds with following seas and it's steered us through the bumps...

I preferred Simrad = test to come. But Raymarine X5 system -hard to beat and probably what I end up with for a 16,000 boat.

Comnav- right in Vancouver. Several models to choose from, they are the hands down favorite of commercial fishing boats in the PNW.

Raymarine for sure. Could be a hydraulic pump, but a Linear electrical drive stick on rudder would work too ....

Theres a lot of force on the tiller of an autopilot. The drive unit is a very important part of the system. Features and screen are sexy but no where near as important in the decision making IMO.

Take a look at the heft of of Simrad vs. Raymarine before you decide. Ray's biz model reinvests in advertising...Simrad, at least prior to Navico, was quite the opposite, investing in the engineering more than marketing.

I went with Simrad and am thrilled I did.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
A important consideration for me is to keep the existing hydraulic pump.
I'll let you know what I end up buying.
