Costs of Sailing merchandise

I wouldn''t buy perishable items (like paint) through ebay. However, things like: anchors, blocks, chains, clothing, electronic equipment, shackles, watches, etc. are easy to cross check in current catalogs for "new-ness".

Like anything else bought online - Caveat Emptor.

Another factor to throw into the equation is the exposure your hardware will receive. If you sail the sea, then you probably need the best stainless steel, but us pond sailors can often use standard hdw. store stuff if it is good quality. Take blocks for instance. If there is no reason for it to be lightweight, and it''s not going to be used on saltwater, then the good stuff at the local hdw. may do.

After deciding I''d have to do without deck organizers for awhile, I saw some good quality sheaves at the farm store. Three of these at $5.00 each, some heavy aluminum sheeting and in a couple of hours and I had deck organizers that have worked fine .
