Painting and Fairing Bulkheads - will this work?

Hi All

I am wanting to repaint my bulkheads.

Currently the strip of fiberglass that runs the 5 inches around the edges of the bulkhead looks really messy, and I want to fair it and repaint.

I am looking to use Epifill or similiar over the glass before fairing but am wondering if this will also adhere to the timber which has been painted with an enamel paint. Or can I only use this on the glass...

Any suggestions greatly appreciated it is an eye sore currently.

Thanks in anticipation

mitiempo will become famous soon enough
To get any kind of fairing compound to stick well you need to sand and dewax the glassfibre and the painted surface should be taken down to bare wood. Epifill is an epoxy based product. As their data sheet states "do not use over any one pack products". In other words do not use over anything except polyester, epoxy, or epoxy based (2 part) paints. A picture would help though.

On our last boat a similar situation was covered up with teak trim.. did a real nice job of hiding the tabbing, as can be seen in the picture below. Perhaps something similar would be a lot less work than what you have in mind.
