Bilge pump

I have a (new to me) 1980 Catalina 30. I noticed that the automatic bilge pump only works when the battery selector switch is on both. Am I missing something? Shouldn't it work when switch is on off?

The automatic bilge should normally be connected to the house battery, bypassing the battery selector switch. Sounds like yours isn't wired that way.

Chase down the wires I think it's possible to do but wierd. I'd start by looking at the back of the battery switch. People usually bypass the battery switch and go directly from a battery on automatic bilge pumps ehrn the switch is off so when leaving the boat you have pumping power but the minimum number of circuts energized.
