SL 555 Windlass Wanted/also Info

My Muir Neptune man windlass is on its last legs. I am not very excited about the electric alternative - the Muir is adequate when it works. Unfortunately, Muir has chosen not to support its installed base with parts. Doesn't say much for the company, does it?

If anyone out there has a Simpson Lawrence SL 555 available, I would be very interested in purchasing it. Or, perhaps you know someone who has one available?

Also, I would be interested to hear from any current SL555 owner with info on S-L parts and support. I understand that Lewmar is still offering parts. Are they readily available and is there tech support available? Would sincerely appreciate any input.

I have a 555 on my boat. I don't have much info for you but here is the user manual with a lot of good information in it:

Parts for the 555 and other SL windlasses can be obtained here : Simpson Lawrence Yacht parts and spares
He is based in England but shipping is not bad - I have bought parts from him

Yes, you can still buy the spare parts from slspares or possibly pyacht; but I don't know if the parts are being produced anymore. Availability might be restricted to what is left of their previously manufactured stock. Lewmar nolonger supports the old S-L product line; they just absorbed the company to decrease competition and buy patent rights.

Florida Rigging has parts for the 555 and does re-work them also.
