anchor chain question

I want to fit an electric anchor winch and am looking at this one.

Quote:
Maxwell's all new RC10 series windlasses proudly follow in the highly successful footsteps of the Freedom, Liberty and HRC fully automatic
rope/chain anchor winches.

Features
The all new RC10 fully automatic windlass series is designed to effortlessly retrieve and deploy 8mm (5/16”) and 10mm (3/8”) short link chain and 14mm (9/16”) and 16mm (5/8”) three strand or 8-plait rope
I asked the seller WMJ and they say HIGH TEST CHAIN ONLY I am not sure but I think my chain is BBB so will it fit?? and is there an easy test??

[ No I can not try it on the chainwheel as I am in the USVI and the windlass supplier is in CA.]

i believe BBB links are shorter than standard links. i would ask the seller if he means BBB chain to be sure your getting the correct windlass. you could look up high test BBB chain & ask the seller why high test only.

They are different sizes. Here is a link to a dealer, you can get the dimensions and determine what you have.
Chain for the Marine Environment

No association, etc, just found it searching.

It appears as though the windlass calls for short link which would be BBB. Check your chain for either "BBB" or "3B" stamped on the links. High test is slightly longer and is marked G4. If the windlass is set up for short link then the longer G4 will likely jump periodically as you drop or weigh anchor. BTW if you do not have a match between your chain and the new windlass you may be able to buy a new gypsy to fit the chain you already have.
