on deck anchor storage

i would like to get a rocna anchor for my boat but it has a bow sprit with a slot in it where the anchor line comes up through . this prevents me from storing the anchor there because it will not fit all the way through and rest properly. Does any body know of an alternitive way to store the anchor but still leave it on deck and be somewhat ready for an emergency? I am also considering a super max anchor but have the same problem.

A Bruce would probably fit nicely and are well respected, at least the original ones are.

Not sure of the space you have, but since I never ever anchor, my 35 lb CQR is kept in the anchor locker on top of the chain & rode. The chain leads through the bow roller and then back to the locker, so it's ready to go if needed in an emergency. If I am going to Catalina or somewhere where I might conceivably need to anchor, I put it on the roller. Just check it from time to time for rust, etc. Don't ask me why I suggest this. If you do decide to secure it on deck, for God's sake make sure it is secure.

Maybe post a pic. First thought is to mod the sprit so the anchor can rest on one side rather than in the middle. Another is to tie a line to the hoop, or hole and feed that up over the front of the sprit so both front and back of anchor are secured.

A lot of people with bowsprits tie off what would be the roll hoop end of the anchor to a point fore or aft of the fairlead. This is fine for protected water sailing but it tends to provide too much freedom for the anchor to hit stuff if it gets rough. Another option would be to store the anchor in the chain locker if it has an opening lid and isn't too heavy. Yet another option would be to make a hanging mount against the bow pulpit if you have one. You could always go the traditional route with a non traditional anchor and add an anchor davit/cathead.

If you want to stow it on deck, I would think that a simple mount would easily do the trick. If you bolted a few wood blocks with eyes in them down to the deck, you should be able to make something that you can tie the anchor down to. If you do this, you should play with the anchor for a few minutes on a flat surface and figure out what orientation the anchor lays in that is the most stable and lowest to the deck. It would probably make sense to make slots in the wood so that the anchor sits in a position and cannot shift fore and aft. Since lashing the anchor each time can be a pain, you might be able to use a couple of chain binder like things that you could hook on and crank down.

The Rocna site has suggestions for modifications...I had to modify my bow roller but the Rocna is such a good anchor it was worth it...

My yawl (previous boat) and ketch both have bowsprits. In the yawl I stored the anchor between the mainmast and cabin. On the ketch I store anchors on deck on both sides of the 'sprit. I intend to put wooden pads on deck. At sea the anchors are stored below.
