breaker box

the previous owner of my boat appears to have begun a rewire project and abandoned it. he cut holes in a piece of balsa wood to mount switches, of which only 3 are wired (exterior lights) there are lots of wires running to the harness, but im thinking they will only be good to pull new stuff through.

ive got two fuseplates from other boats i was thinking of employing, but wondered if there is a good company that provides aftermarket control panels?

I am a fan of Blue Sea Systems. I rewired my boat last year and went with thier stuff. For good prices check out Peter Kennedy Yacht Services. He is not local to you, but the savings will definitely cover the shipping. There are those on this forum who will try to steer you away from Peter. Talk to Peter and get quotes before you make a decision.

Any rough approximation of total $? nickmerc you just re-did yours? 30' boat, about 10 switches, on two batteries... inverter seems good. new box, new cables... and who knows what else i may uncover...

8271 panel

Were is the BOX as on my A4 CAL 29 its in the motor area which requires ignition protected breakers AND Blue Sea makes very nice series of panels in 3,4,6 and 8 breakers Horizontal or Vertical that Meets UL 1500 and ISO 8846 ignition protection requirements

I am going with this panel or combo of them when i know how many breakers i want and there 7650 add a battery as it keeps the starting and house battery separate and auto charges as required

In my search its the cheapest thing for a small electric system

I would purchase a larger panel than you first calculate.
I have always found a later need for another fused switch (or 2). Ours is obviously a different need to yours, but in the photo, I have used the blanks.

hmmm...ive got a switch labeled ignition, but it is not wired, yet oddly the key fires the engine... think this is a safety hazard of immediate concern?

I concurr with Blue Sea as being the best. When I rewired my Cal-29 I mounted new fuse switch panels on plastic "project boxes" that I got at Radio Shack and also from online vendors. Besides cost my reason for this DIY approach was several fold: I wanted to meet the ABYC standard for an fully enclosed pack on the panels which backed into the engine compartment; I wanted to do a second level of fused distribution inside the box behind the switchboard of some of the switches e.g. a switch for cabin lighting on the front panel feeding separately fused lighting circuts inside (one blows and I still have hald the lights); and finally I couldn't find commercial products with the switches I needed that would fit into the space I had available.

also... the inverter is good, ive got the heavy duty guest bat. selector... if im redoing the other stuff is there a compelling reason to address the working parts i now have?
