Does anyone use plexiglass boards? Of course they don't offer privacy, but in my case I actually want visibility in/out of the cabin in bad weather (I often sail with my 6 YO boy).
I'm more concerned about their strength and water tightness. Also, does it make sense to go with one board vs. two to make it stronger and cheaper?

I'm thinking of replacing the rotten boards on my Pearson 28-2 with plexiglass, and would appreciate any advice or insights...

Plexiglass

Hello,

Many boats, including my 1986 O'day 35, came with Plexiglass drop boards. Mine are smoked for privacy, but still allow some light in and you to see out.

They seem pretty strong and while I am sure they don't make a watertight seal they don't let rain in. My O'day has a good sized bridgedeck, so it would take a LARGE wave for water to reach the drop boards.

I have smoked plexiglass or equal folding doors, and wood drop in boards. The plexi doors are nice when sailing. I also have a small piece of wood that overlaps the front edge so not as much rain or equal can get into the front slat tween the doors.
