Folding companion way doors

Notice how when they fold back the viewable hole lines up with the instruments. They also just lift off the hinges for stowing.

I'm not sure how water tight they are though.

Or secure. I can see the convenience, but drop boards are secure and will withstand someone falling into them. Or a wave hitting them. For convenience I have a canvas flap that is attached at the aft end of the slider, rolls up out of the way, is weighted by a strip of wood sewn in the bottom. And solid drop boards.

I agree. Clever, wet and fragile.

clever

Hey,

I like those doors. Very clever. I can also state that in my 7 seasons of sailing I have never sailed with the drop boards in.

But in a worst case I'd like the option of putting the drop boards in. Doors are convenient for liveaboard though.

Those look like they could be nice for protected water sailing. You could probably still put the drop boards in behind them if it got nasty, it looks like there is room.

Good Point. They do just have lift off hinges so the drop boards would still work.

When we are out in really nasty stuff we have a different lower board that LOCKS in place so if we get dumped on it does not flood the cabin that easy

these look neat

I have the dropin slats, and as a liveaboard it is kind of a pain. I looked at these but they are kinda pricey....

They're easy to make.
