fuel filter changes

I have a Tartan 37 with a Westebeke 40 auxilery. When is the best time of the year to be changing the fuel filters? The end of the season or the begining? I have a primary racor and the standard filter on the engine.

Hi
the best time to replace a fuel filter is, when it''s plugged. Just keep a spare on hand at all times.
If you haven''t got a problem with contamination, you''ll do best just after the first use after a long storage period. This allows what trash you have to get trapped and dispossed of prior to any lengthy use during the season.

I''ve never HAD to replace a fuel filter under difficult/dangerous circumstances - because I change them BEFORE they''re plugged.
Otherwise peterpan2k''s advice OK, as long as you trial run the engine at the dock, then change filter.

Thanks for the advise. I am very careful with my fuel, using additives each fillup.
I don''t use the engine all that much since I only cruise the Chesepeake Bay so I plan on changing the filters once a year. After the first trip in the spring is the answer I was looking for. Thanks again.
