help: Comprehensive outboard spare part list
The plan is to leave for the bahamas for a 6 to 8 month period of time, and maybe leave for a longer period in a few years. I was wondering what kind of inventory I should gather in order to be almost self sufficient in reparing the old thrusty outboard. I made a list of what I think may be necessary, but would like the comments of the long time cruisers to avoid unecessary spending and to fill the gaps in my list.
The old thrusty outboard is a 1971 evinrude 2cyl 4hp low hours (~90) passed down to me by my grandfather. Recently overhauled (carbkit + head gasket + water pump, etc.)
The list so far:
Tune-up Kit (contact+condenseur)
Water pump repair kit + spare impeller + oil seals
Spare starter rope
Drive shaft o-rings
Spark plugs 8x
Spark plugs boots and therminal (2x)
Spark plug wire
Needle packing (box of 10)
Spare drain/fill plug
Impellers pins (4x)
Fuel line + clamps(5foot)
maybe an Impeller if you can find one on ebay, just to be safe.
My 1965 5.5 Johnson ran well into the mid 1980s and it had thousands of hours so if you reseal the gear case and did the pump it should do fine
Your real issue will be If the motor will come apart without breaking when there in the shop it tends to take a lot of heat and care to get one apart
So IMHP anything like a water pump should be taken apart NOW and put back toghter with something like tef-gel on the bolts so IF you have and issue it comes apart with ease as saltwater will make this very hard pretty fast
I am not seeing a fuel pump on the list and its a common item to fail
