I have lines on my 30'r, granted I do not go off shore, but puget sound is 40F yr around. so when the wind the wind/waves pipe up we use them going forward than the cockpit. My lines run from the back part of the cabin top, inside the shrouds to the for cleats. "IF" I personally wanted lines for when int he cockpit, I would probably do as others have done, and put a line in the cockpit floor or some equal. Granted I now have two sets of lines, ie for and aft/cockpit lines. This would work "best" for my boat and useage. I put some eye bolts for lack of better term on the back of the cabin top for the connection point, and a waterknot to connect here.

As mentioned to a degree by others, do what works with in all the how to's that works for you boat.
