Smile never seez

Merry Christmas, everyone...Hey guys I have a question on a product called never seez, steamfitters and plumbers where I work use it on all their fitting threads, I have been using it for years on all my auto repairs. What do you think in the marine environment? Valves and fittings come off with ease even after a very long time....It seems like every time I try to remove a valve or threaded part its a struggle. Anyone use this product?? Thanks Red

There are a LOT of types i use the nickle on pipe unions BUT the same stuff on a Stainless bolt put into Aluminum

Which would be things like and outboard or saildrive would be a NEVER come apart item

Tef-gel has a good rep for being able to come apart

I use perfect seal as it lubes bolts and Sterndrives come apart after long periods in saltwater

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

Gasket Sealant is totally different from Never-Seize (Seize, as in GRAB or GRASP) which is a trademarked brand of anti-seize compound, not a gasket sealant. It is made in many grades by several makers, and the marine and "land" versions mainly differ in the amount of copper and nickel dust used in them. I'd use a marine grade in salt water environment. I use the plain commercial grade (which is used in nuclear power plants among other places) all over the place. Use it SPARINGLY because it contaminates everything that comes in contact with it. A slight dab will ensure spark plugs never freeze or stick. Just a bit more will let the tips arc over and short out the cylinders. SPARINGLY.

Great stuff, and if you meet someone that calls themself a mechanic and they don't own a jar of it--they're just a grease monkey trying to pass themself off as more.

For..

For most marine use I try to avoid Anti-Seize or Never-Seize type products that contain bits of dissimilar metals such as aluminum, nickel, copper or graphite. I prefer to use Tef-Gel. For pipe fittings I use Real-Tuff which is a teflon pipe dope made by Hercules Chemical Corp for pipe fittings.

I have not yet found something that Tef-Gel does not work on to both prevent corrosion and make come apart at a later date and it is galvanically inert.

While I do own many jars of Never-Seize I rarely use it on the boat, and like Hello said, it is MESSY!!

Never-Seize is the worlds greatest migratory lubricant. you put it on one thing, and it ends up everywhere! Tef-gel is what I've found to work the best too.

We call Never-Seize the Animal. It crawls all over your body and you find it in places you never expected! However it does work amazingly well. I've used it on 1" alloy studs where we tightened the nuts with a large air wrench until they stripped, and then was able to back them off!

I have a problem with Tef-Gel and other such products. They work at keeping the corrosion down and making sure you can get the fasteners apart. However I have had lots of problems trying to keep fasteners tight, and not falling out! So I much prefer Blue loctite. It keeps water out of the joint, so no corrosion, and bolts stay tight, but are still removable. On thousands of stainless bolts I have NEVER had a stainless fastener sieze while using it.

Never use it on turnbuckles unless they are safety wired as they WILL come unscrewed. Commercial fisherman use it all the time on their galvanized fittings.

Well

Its good to know after thousands of hours in school between 1973 and 2005 that the common name for the bolt sealant that is NEAT seals out water and does NOT cause any galvanic reactions is completely wrong because some nuke plant monkey does not understand how its used and why

Your communication skills improve somewhat after you become testy!!

I was confused in your first post as the picture in it seemed to be a different product than anything you were writing about. I think I've got it now. You are advising us to use Loctite Aviation Gasket Sealant as an alternative to the messier anti-seize products, right? And it is commonly known as "perfect seal". Am I correct?
