Oh Joy resto 12/26/09

I went up to work on Oh Joy today with my Grandsons Isaiah and Alex. I had them sanding in the stern and the hull while I built some more parts.

Izzy sanding in tight spots with the Sonicrafter.

Alex working some ribs.

Getting some deck beams done.

Other work the boys did aft.

Aft clamp scarph joint.

I think I need to lengthen that some more.

A piece of the clamp I removed. Nasty eh?

I might've gotten more done today if I hadn't run off without my new Sonicrafter blades.

Plenty of ice on the roads and ground. Probably 25F at night. They're ready to go back Monday. I had them helping mill and cut the deck beams as well. They don't touch the table saw but I have them do closely supervised work on the jointer, planer and bandsaw. Small, easy cuts on the bandsaw...

Looking good, Charlie. Keep it up.

Leither is on a distinguished road
Great stuff and very interesting. I had a friend in the UK who had an elderly wooden fishing boat (50' long, 16' beam) and I often helped him with restoration work. With some (amateur) experience of working with wood, I found this a lot less challenging and a great deal more satisfying than fiberglass work. Like lots of people, I have tended to go for fiberglass when choosing a boat of my own, because of the oft quoted opinion that wooden boats are more work to maintain. But I do wonder these days whether that is, in fact, true.....

Keep the posts coming!
