Balmar Regulator

Does anyone use a balmar regulator with a Yanmar 3gm30 engine? I replaced my alternator with a company called ZRD. It is 94 amp's and after replacing everything my balmar regulator does not work. Is it easy to burn up these regulators? Mine has a 10 and 2 amp fuse which is still good.

We'll need more info? How was it wired? Is the new alt internal or external regulation? Did the regulator ever work with the new alt? If not it's likely a wiring issue. More specifics would definitely help..

ZRD makes alts set up for either internal regulation or external. If you got one that is internally regulated you'll need to convert it so you have a field tap..

Alternator is a external regulation. I replaced it with a balmer dual charging alternator. Before I repalced it the regulator had power. Also, since I went from a dual system to a single system I re-wired my boat so the starting battery is included in the house bank. Now I have 4 group 27 batteries and a 96 amp alternator. I also have a genset battery which is completely separate. My thought process was I could always turn on the genset and charge up my house batteries to start my engine.

Something in your wiring was most likely not done correctly during the change over. I would draw yourself a wiring diagram so you have a visual and then double check everything..

I am using a Balmar on a 3GM30F. I added a second alternator and kept the original to charge my start battery. The Balmar, with an external regulator, charges my house batteries. Since everything worked before the change over, the idea of checking your wiring with a diagram is a good one.

Scott,
The second alternator was mounted by first, making a larger bracket for the motor mount and then welding a custom made mount to the side of the bracket.

Yes, you are correct. It was a wiring problem. Everything works great.
