Raymarine ST4000

I replaced my tiller with a wheel. It came with an ST4000 autopilot.

It makes a teeth grinding noise and seems to catch with a loud crack. I've read on another thread about the solution.

I think I can buy another wheel drive for a good price but I wonder if it is worth patching this unit?

The display does not read accurately and that would have to be another part I would look for.

We are two years away from sailing away. I just need something to hold a course for brief breaks for my coastal sailing now.

I'm also confused as to what to replace it with if I decided to throw it all out and how much it would cost me.

Budget is tight as I am doing more structural refitting now on the boat--next up is the standing rigging.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Doug

Doug;
I was able to just replace the drive part for around $450+/-. However, replacing just the drive unit won't do anything about the accuracy you refer to.

Can't offer suggestions on what to replace it with, but if budget drives it, the cheap out is simply replace the drive unit with the, I think, S1.
