step mast to change furler?

Does anyone know if the mast needs to be stepped to change an old furler to a Karken model on a C-30? I was told it could be done with the mast braced.

You should be able to hold the mast up temporarily by taking the jib halyard to the tack fitting or bow cleats.

Jeff''s correct. Its a relative easy task to do. I changed mine on my O''Day 30 in about 3 hours, with the help of one other person. would be a lot easier though with two helpers. sometimes it a bear hoisting someone up in a bosen''s with only one person to tail and grind.
