Loran/VHF antenna

Is there any reason why I could/should not use an unused loran antenna that is mounted deck level as my VHF antenna?

No reason I can think of, as long as your content to talk only to the boats at neighboring moorings or slips.

The range of VHF is basically line-of-sight. The higher up your antenna, the greater your range. That''s why most are mounted at the masthead.
