Stainless Hot Pipe?
I am replacing the hot pipe and the water lift muffler that serves my Atomic-4. I will use the ss muffler from Moyer Marine, their exhaust flange which is cast and the inline cooling water exhaust entry fitting that is bronze. I need to fabricate the hot pipe.
I would like to use ss for the hot pipe. Reducing the rust stain on the transom below the exhaust pipe exit would be nice. It will require only standard sized nipples and standard fittings. I have priced the black iron at HomeDepot and the ss on the web. The difference is about $50.00. I can afford the ss and would consider it money well spent since the effort will be the same. I wonder if I am creating problems by joining the cast iron exhaust flange to a ss street elbow and ultimately an ss coupler to the bronze cooling water exhaust entry fitting. That fitting joins the ss muffler via a piece of exhaust hose. It seems like it must be a standard solution whenever a ss exhaust is built.
Moyer's exhaust flange is tapped for an exhaust back pressure measuring kit. I think I will add the kit to get a pressure reading after the new exhaust is installed. This engine is a Moyer rebuild with 22 hours on it.
Does anyone measure their exhaust back pressure?
Any suggestions are welcome.
