New England Ropes Mega Plait

I'm considering using New England Ropes Mega Plait spliced to chain to make up a new anchor rode and would appreciate any user reviews. TIA

It's pretty good stuff, better than three-strand, but not as good as the new nylon double braids designed for anchor rode use.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

In what way better? I thought the Mega stuff was supposed to be the best?

It folds up the smallest and easiest in the anchor locker at least doesn't it?

The new double-braids probably stow as neatly as the MegaPlait. It is also stronger than the MegaPlait. 5/8" MegaPlait has an minimum breaking strength of 10000 lbs. 5/8" Samson SUPER STRONG ANCHOR LINE has a minimum breaking strength of 12900 lbs., and an average breaking strength of 15200 lbs.

One good thing about the 3 strand is that you get more stretch out of it. Also I think it's more chafe resistance although those two properties seem to be at odds.

The negative qualities of three-strand make it a non-starter if you can afford megaplait or one of the double-braids. The double braids and megaplait also have very good stretch characteristics.
