Fittings are spun in to plastic tanks which welds them in from the heat of friction. I have had it done and it only tales a few minutes. But in the shop, not the boat.

My tank is configured with two separate dip top-mounted tubes and discharges that lead to (a) a manual Whale diaphragm pump and (b) a deck pumpout fitting.
In this case, my mechanic is pushing me to put a ball valve between the tank and the diaphragm pump to improve suction and protect the manual pump. I haven't seen this approach recommended anywhere else under the sun, although it doesn't strike me as a terrible idea. Thoughts?
That's a good change, and will indeed protect the little flap valve inside the manual pump. I added that to the factory system when I replaced all the parts in a factory Ericson waste management system, which incorporates a manual pump to evacuate the tank when out at sea. Drop me a line if you want a link to my project site. It's tedious working in spaces where a ferret would feel right at home... but nothing worth paying someone else $70./hour to do. You also need a good dictionary of swear words...
