In no way does my handheld compare well to my standard VHF. I like the Standard Horizon handheld for radio traffic with nearby boats, if I need range I use the built in VHF with mast top antenna. Nice to have redundancy aboard and I can take the handheld in the dinghy or ashore. Life is good.
