Not all refurbished products are factory refurbished... while I have no issues with buying factory refurbished gear with a factory warranty, I'd be very hesitant and wary of buying gear that was refurbished elsewhere.

In todays digital market anything that has been returned to the manufacturer for any reason can be inspected and resold as refurbished. Most of the time the units are new and have never been removed from their original packaging. Outlets specializing in refurbished units offer them at discounted prices all the time.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I wouldn't sweat it. You're not talking big bucks here like you are buying a complete chartplotter / radar system that has been refubished. You buy with a credit card, register it n Garmins website. If it can't be registered or it looks like there is a problem you return it.

Is there somebody out there refubishing Garmin products other than Garmin?

Just a thought. If you have an iPhone you can download the Navionics plotter app for $10. I just tried it out taking my boat from Oxford to Cambridge Friday and it worked pretty flawlessly. Not quite pinpoint accuracy but pretty darn close. the iPhone screen is about the same size as the unit your looking at.
