Yanmar 2GMF Transmission Oil?

Does anyone know if a Yanmar 2GMF shares its oil with the transmission, or does the transmission have its own oil?

The transmission is separate with its own oil. The 2GM uses the same oil in the transmission as in the engine, i.e. a good diesel lube oil like Shell Rotella.

Yes, JimsCAL is correct but note that the transmission oil should not be a multigrade, use 5w. At least that is what I learned at the Mack Boring diesel class I recently took.

Hope this helps.

I have a Yanmar 2GMF also and yes, it uses the same type of oil that the engine uses. (Not all Yanmar engines do ) There is a separate oil dipstick on the transmission. We use Shell Rotella T as recomended by the Mack Boring class I took. In our area the best place to find the Shell Rotella oil is at truck stops that service diesel trucks.

The one-day basic diesel maintenance class from Mack Boring was invaluable, highly recomended!
