Curious about mast unstepping procedure

1 Attachment(s)
My mast is deck stepped, and I'm wondering what's actually holding it in place. I can't see any bolts that might be holding it in place, and I'm wondering if it's sitting on a post of some sort and the shrouds and stays are what keeps it down. I don't see anything underneath in the cabin roof either.

I'm attaching a photo of the base -- the quarter is there for scale. The other side looks pretty much the same.

What usually holds a deck stepped mast in place?

Thanks!

Mine has a boot that is bolted in place. Maybe your boot is glassed in or something. My guess is that lip that your quarter is stitting on is your boot.

I would say yours has a small casting that is inside that the mast fits over. Other masts have other set ups. Compression is provided by stays and shrouds as you surmised.

I'd have to agree that your mast is probably sitting on top of a casted mast step that is bolted to the deck. The shrouds and stays hold it down on top of the casting, so it doesn't really need to be bolted to stay in place.

:laugherThe quarter should be under the mast and not on the side.:laugher

Only a quarter?:D

BTW, it should be a SILVER COIN, as Charon does not accept gold or lesser metals.

"BTW, it should be a SILVER COIN, as Charon does not accept gold or lesser metals"

then it better be a pretty old quarter - they have been mostly copper since i was little

What about electrolysis with a copper or silver coin under there? Maybe an aluminum coin - an old franc piece- or something plastic from a New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration would be better? I have to think there's some sort of raised center that the mast fits over or around, which keeps it from moving.
