You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I've got a 9.9 Johnson 2-stroke long shaft on my Cal 25. The water pump corrodes and poops out if its used on salt water. Take it to a Johnson shop and have them change it out- shouldn't be expensive. It's a great engine for the Cal 25. $100, even with a bad pump is a great deal. Ours also has a charging system and, again, it runsd everything on our boat. Take it in and get it tuned at the end of each year, and you'll never want for another engine again. They literally don't make 'em like that enymore.

stiche, the pump is taken care of no vanes at all on the old impeller! just waiting for the new thermostat to come in.. it was running cold. I was doing some reading, they can run on a 100 - 1 oil mix! but most people use 50-1
