picture of cracked rod terminal

Hi everybody,

Here is a picture of a cracked NavTec rod terminal I recently discovered on my boat. It might encourage those of you who have got older or suspicious terminals (frozen or leaking rust) to open them or have them magnafluxed.

The screw thread is broken twice. If you look closely you might see one of the cracks in a 90° angle to the thread top down (red arrow).

Remarkable is that two tiny flashs in the head of the rod (they appear to be traces of the forging - blue arrow) which exactly match with the cracks apparently split the hollow core bolt like a chopper.

All the best,
Luis

The narrow cut in the thread is no damage but a groove for a pin securing the outer shell of the terminal

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
