Prop Struck Crack

I have a Sabre 28 II I was bottom painting the other day and noticed a small crack about the width of a piece of paper fold in 1/2. It runs the length of where the cutlass bearing goes. Prop seams to turn OK and if I pull on it there is no wobble
Has nay one any experience with this on a Sabre

The crack sounds as if it is located in the prop strut. This is the piece where the prop shaft passes through the cutlass bearing. You should glad you noticed it!

I had 2 prop strut failures on my 1981 Hunter 30. Both were probably caused by electrolysis weakening the bronze strut over time. Both repairs were costly as I had to have the boat hauled in order to make repairs.

It may be possible to repair the crack while you are still out of the water, without having to remove the strut from the boat. My suspicion is that you will probably have to remove the strut and take it to a welder for repair. Should that be necessary, replace the cutlass bearing and zinks at the same time.

This is something I strongly suggest you take care of before you splash your boat for the season.
