Engine Room Insulation

Curious about the type of insulation used in engine rooms for sound shielding. you know the stuff, usually silver on the outside, flame retardant etc...

Wondered where I might be able to purchase this stuff. Or if anyone has found any successful alternatives.

My boat is a 1969 Morgan 33 CCA - and the engine room is not insulated for sound. Would like to at least insulate the access areas as I''ve found just putting a towel over them makes a fair difference...and that Yanmar likes to make itself heard - wouldn''t mind quieting it down a bit.

Thanks,

Rob

Engine Room Insulation

Look at the West Marine Catalog page 341. I used this material on my boat and it did a good job of reducing engine noise from my ol'' Perkins!

It is fairly easy to install. I used contact cement for vertical surfaces plus screws and large fender washers to hold up the material on overhead surfaces.

Get the seam tape to give it a professional finish on the edges.

fairwinds,

Jim

Ludlow,

BTW, I can''t seem to navigate the website for the soundproofing tiles. From the reviews, I''d like to talk to the company - but the image maps on their site aren''t working (I''m on a mac, quite possibly the reason - always something!!) Any chance you could pass along the URL for the contact page, or, just their contact info?

Thanks so much,

Rob
