I had a monitor on my last boat and was satisfied with its performance. On my new boat I just had a capehorn vane installed. The capehorn is a much cleaner installation with only a few inches of equipment behind the boat. It is also reputed to be more effective in light air. With monitor you get one size oar regardless of the boat. The capehorn oar is sized to the surface area of your boats rudder to optimize light air performance.

Take a look at the web site (www.capehorn.com) They have lists of boats that the vane has been installed on.
