Potomac/Chesapeake/VA/MD Marina, Boatyard Repairs

I am looking for recommendations for full-service sailing marinas for repair of our sailboat (fiberglass) and repowering as well as usual maintainence (bottom paint, new backstay, etc).

Who would you use if you needed this service? (our boat was a victim of a hit-and-run in our marina)

Thanks for the help!
faith

There are lots, but my preference (where both my son and I haul our own boats these days) is Herrington Harbour North, located in Deale MD. It's a full service boatyard, arrangements can be made to do some work on your own boat, there are numerous specialist contractors available onsite and nearby, there's a West Marine store on the premises, etc., etc.

The yard is VERY clean and environmentally conscious, has won several awards, and is very well managed. Prices are competitive.

It's also about the closest yard from the Washington, DC area....a 40-minute drive.

I've heard the same about Herrington Harbour. And ooohhh, a West Marine on the property? Heaven.

Herrington Harbour North is very good. Osprey Marine Composites is on site to handle the fiberglass work, however they have a bit of a backlog right now. There are plenty of shops that can do the engine work. I haven't used a rigger, but I'm sure they have one there.

If you are looking for something on the Potomac (Herrington would be quite a distance), there are two contractors at Ft. Washington marina. I've not used them, but when I was doing some research a few years ago I do recall that one of the contractors seemd to be well known for fiberglass work. If you have the time, head to Herrington. I also hear good things about the yards at Kinsale, but again I have no personal experience. Another option may be to call the Washington Sailing Marina and ask who they suggest. I seem to recall that you are close to DC.
