the PO didnt seem to thing a bilge pump was very important, so im afraid that there were periods of time with standing water in the bilge. the support boards that run across the bilge may have been exposed to prolonged periods of time in water. any way to clean them up and give them some kind of treatment? they seem to be sound, but i would prefer to be sure.

I am guessing they are encapsulated in fiberglass. The failure mode then is around the limber holes. Some manufactures don't bother to seal inside of them. If this is your situation you can use a wire to check for rotten wood by poking around inside the holes. You will be able to quickly tell. Other wise you can just tap them with a hammer and tell by the sound if they are waterlogged or soft.
