Thanks

CCushions or Bottom Siders. More expensive but well worth it.

One boat that I looked at had closed cell foam cushions (like CCushions/Bottomsiders) with canvas (looked like sunbrella) top covers, and a mesh bottom.
These were sweeeeeet.

I would love to know who makes 'em.

They look really nice but they are expensive. Any other thoughts?

You can buy closed cell foam from Defender ~$115/sheet. If you have the ability to cover it, as eherlihy suggests, you can have a really nice ride for 1/3 the price of BottomSiders.

We popped for BottomSiders when we bough the boat - they have cracked in a few places over the last 8-years so they are now a little unsightly. Spouse has a Sailright machine and is going to cover them for this season. A new set is now ~$900, kind of painful to repeat only for rump aesthetics.

Sailrite has easy instructions for making cockpit cushions

If you can run a sewing machine you can make them. I did and was very happy with the results at 1/3 the cost of commercially made.

Wayne...what material will you use to cover the closed cell foam. We have a sailrite machine also and my wife needs a winter project. hahahaha

Dave,

We will use the old standard Sunbrella. That is what Sailright recommends in their video as well. It is tough enough to stand up for years so the job won't have to be repeated.

That seems like a great way to go. According to Defende you can sew it wit a regualar sewing machine? Does that sound right? Do you need an special thread?

We got a set of closed cell cockpit cushions with Sunbrella covers at a relatively reasonable price from sailboatowners.com . We are very pleased with them. Apparently they had been made up for our model boat and were in stock, so we got them at a clearance price. It is worth checking.
