Agree it sounds fine.. but to be honest I didn't listen to all 7 minutes of it!

Mine sounds like that sometimes, but new straight, rotella 30wt oil, and good clean 45 cetane fuel quiets it down some. Best thing you can do for it, is to run it under load, at over 80% revs for a few hours.

I listened to all 7 minutes, sounds like the noise is "metallic" rather
than "combustion"? Some diesels that I have heard have a loud
knocking or pinging sound when cold that moderates or goes away
after fully warmed up. Don't know if your engine was fully warmed
up? It would be interesting if the noise appeared abruptly or came
on gradually over time?

An injector that's not properly atomizing can produce a pronounced 'ping' that sounds quite mechanical.. I didn't hear that there, but it's something to look at. Have the injector tested/serviced and see if it quietens down.

That condition normally also produces some grey/brown smoke too, though.....

Sounds like an injector to me. Open each injector line & see if the sound changes,if it does you have found the noise.

Good plan, but it's a single cylinder.. I'm pretty sure the sound will change if it's 'opened'....
