How much purchase for a cunningham?

Hi All...

I want to rig a cunningham for my Scampi 30. How much purchase does you all recomend? 2 to 1? 4 to 1? 1 to 1?

Thanks...

Jim

4:1 is minimal, but you can attach it to a bit of line than goes through the cunningham cringle and back down to the gooseneck somewhere.. effectively creating 8:1, albeit high friction. Otherwise maybe lead it to a cabintop winch though a clutch.

For a straight pull I'd use 6:1 and smallish line (5/16th). The better purchase the easier it will be to use and you'll end up using it more often and more effectively.

Thanks Faster, I currently don't have any cunningham, so i can rig whatever is best. I'm just trying to figure out how what to rig. My sails are expensive D4 laminates, and sometimes the crew is over-anxious. I don't want to make it too easy for them to destroy my luff :-(

Ideally, we would not need a winch. I was not even going to lead it aft.

On my 9.1 I have 2:1 and it works fine. You do no need a lot of purchase with a cunningham.
