Multi-purpose transom appendix
I had a wish list for the transom of my new boat, so I made this thing out of SS 316 square tubing, 1-1/4", and a piece of HDPE.
As you can see, it is a ladder with a foldable step. It is also a mast crutch, with the mast sliding on the very slippery HDPE (since the mast is anodized the friction is very low, don't need a roller). It can be stored there, and used for stepping the mast (raising it). The Y can then be removed and the pole functions as a flag pole under way. The aft stay is also attached to it, and so is the lantern (I had to, or this thing would have been in the way of the lantern). It can also be used to attach a BBQ, and it has a few other uses as well.
To make it strong enough I put 10 cm diameter stainless backing on the inside, and reinforced the transom with several more layers fiberglass. Would hate to have the transom ripped out at sea... Incidentally, I enforced all attachment points for the stays, they just didn't seem made for storm.
